The author does a decent job of giving a history of Boudicca, but the book is dry and can be tedious to read at times. While I understand that there is very little historical documentation and limited sources from which to draw information about Boudicca's life, the author tends to spend more time talking about the Romans and Roman history rather than the Celts/5(25).

Book 1. Dreaming the Eagle. by Manda Scott. Ratings Reviews published 47 editions. Dreaming the Eagle is the first part of the glorio Author: Manda Scott. Can't wait to read all the others in the series. Now I've actually finished reading the book - I can add the following - If you have an inkling of how Bodicea - who was known before the Victorians, and since, as Boudica, may have originated, then this is the book for you/5(20).

Boudicca fought one more battle, though its precise location is unknown. Boudicca's army attacked uphill, and, exhausted and hungry, was easily routed by the Romans to rout. Roman troops—numbering just 1,—defeated Boudicca's army of.

Dreaming the Eagle is the first part of the gloriously imagined epic trilogy of the life of Boudica. Boudica means Bringer of Victory (from the early Celtic word “boudeg”).

She is the last defender of the Celtic culture in Britain; the only woman openly to lead her warriors into battle and to stand successfully against the might of Imperial Rome -- and triumph/5. Boudicca is known for being a warrior queen of the Iceni people, who lived in what is now East Anglia, England.

In 60–61 CE she led the Iceni and other peoples in a revolt against Roman rule. Although her forces massacred s Romans and their supporters, they were ultimately defeated.

This is a great book that give far more details than Boudica herself. It gives information about the time before and after the Iceni rebellion (war) against the Romans occupying Britain. It's a historical book not a novel and in my opinion one of the best about the enigmatic character who defied Rome for two years/5(35).

The Celts, best known for living in tribes, being rebellious and their warrior queen Boudicca, were one of the most powerful and advanced groups in Iron Age society. Have your sword, spear and shield ready because you're in for a bruising battle with this collection of texts chosen by Scott Evans, primary school teacher and children's book reviewer.

's 'Boudicca-The Warrior Queen' published is the second book that I have read by this author, having previously given four stars for his 'Cnut;Emperor of the North.' Mr Trow is a historian and a history teacher, well I only wish I had a history teacher of his perspicacity when I /5(12).

Boudica’s name: Boudica, Boudicca or Boadicea. The names of the individuals are harder to pin down, but one thing we can say for certain is that BOADICEA is a typo – or at least, the mediaeval.

She was the rebel queen of the ancient British Celtic Iceni tribe, who led an army against the Romans in AD 60/61, securing her place in the history books as one of Britain’s most iconic rulers. Boudicca (also written as Boudica and Boudicea) is believed to have been born around AD 30 into an elite family in South East England.

Book Description Boudicca is the riveting tragic story of a Celtic queen known as "The Mother of Britain," who dared to defy Nero and Challenge the Roman Army. This story is a blend of the available historical facts concerning the famed Iceni Queen, with the mythology in.

There is an extensive bibliography for further reading, which includes the source material for Boudicca as well as background for the tribes of Britain/5.

Boudicca quickly rallied her tribe and attacked the city of Camulodunum (Colchester of today) where she massacred the inhabitants and burned the city. The Roman Governor Gaius Suetonius Paulinus, busy campaigning on the Anglesey island of Mona, hurried back to put down Boudicca’s revolt.

In the meantime, she had attacked and destroyed Londinium (London) and Verulamium (St. Albans) Author: Joshua J. Mark. Boudicca Books, Orillia, Ontario. likes. Boudicca Books is a book lover's paradise with the largest selection of fine used books in Orillia/5(22).

Despite this book's title, the author's focus is mainly on ancient Britain and its peoples in the face of Roman invasion. The author is very careful in pointing out what is known, what is legend, what is not known and what can never be known about Boudicca and the people of Britain during that period/5(4).
